Is Podiatry Free?

Unfortunately seeing a Podiatrist privately is not free and the initial consultation for podiatry treatment can vary from clinic to clinic depending on the service being provided and the skill and experience of the podiatry practitioner providing the service. (see Trust & Care)

Private Health Insurance

Most Health Funds cover podiatry on a percentage (%) basis. You will need to contact your health fund to find out exactly what your coverage is, but on average it is usually about 50%.

All Proarch Podiatry clinics use HICAPS, which is an electronic link between our clinic and your health fund.  This service saves time because you do not have to make an extra trip to your health fund after your treatment.

“You do not need a referral to see a Podiatrist”

However some people will receive government assistance depending on their individual circumstances.

A new Medicare initiative allows chronically ill people, such as those with Diabetes and Vascular Disease, who are being managed by their GP under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan access to Medicare rebates for podiatry services. To receive these rebates you must obtain a referral from your GP.

To receive podiatry treatment covered by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs you must obtain a (D904) Referral from your GP prior to your first visit.

To be eligible for Podiatry treatment from Work Cover Queensland, you will need a referral from your GP and a valid Claim Number specifically related to your injury.
